Charcoal Chimney Starter--Stainless Steel

I have had similar charcoal lights but they did not work well, this one is great. It is solidly built, large capacity and lights the whole stack very quickly. It functions well with chunk and briquettes. It took less than 15 mins for the coals to be ready.

This feels like a well built starter chimney, not flimsy at all. Holds a good amount of Charcoal & ignites quickly. The large holes allow for air flow. The handle doesn't conduct heat, so you're good to go.

This is the max rig for starting charcoal. First off it is really large. If you have a big charcoal grill this is going to do the job. Next up is the solid stainless steel construction. It is riveted together and includes a large heat shield to protect your hand. The handle is plastic that will stay cool to the touch. The bottom has a wire basket to hold the charcoal and provides great air flow to get things going. The instructions suggest placing the chimney over a gas flame to ignite the charcoal. This would for sure do the job. For me, I am sticking with a single square fire starter block placed in the center of the basket under one briquette. That works just fine, though it may be a bit slower than using a gas burner.All in all, this is a great looking, well made piece of hardware for your grilling outfit and well worth the money.

Alright, so we know the gold standard is pretty much weber. We can debate about their pricing but their quality is usually top notch. As I already have one of their chimneys, I was eager to see how this one compares. The steel walls are nice quality, which is a great sign. You don't want the walls to be too thin or else it will wear down and fall apart later. I used this chimney to reverse sear a tri-tip. I would say this is a full-size chimney on par as the Weber version. I filled it about half-way to light up a small amount of coals for the low heat session of my cook. The coals lit up as expected. The heat blocker works great and leaves the handle a bit cooler to touch. I'm guessing you could grab it with your bare hands, but I wouldn't recommend it. As you dump your coals, embers fly out and you should still protect your hands with gloves. I didn't notice any sticky residue and the chimney worked out great overall. Real happy with this.
